About Our Lab
The research team led by Dr. Mehrabi has targeted its efforts at three major aspects of the resiliency of bridges and buildings:
- evaluation of structures using non-destructive testing (NDT) methods,
- advanced numerical analysis of structures,
- development of new methods for the construction and repair of bridges and buildings.

About our lab
The research team led by Dr. Mehrabi has targeted its efforts at three major aspects of the resiliency of bridges and buildings: evaluation of structures using non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, advanced numerical analysis of structures, and development of new methods for the construction and repair of bridges and buildings. The applied research performed by Dr. Mehrabi’s group in the last 5 years has generated more than 45 journal articles, 28 conference papers, six patents, three books, and numerous reports testifying to the extremely high value and applied nature of the research. As the largest undertaking to date, NDT-Lab at FIU is offering a new in-person graduate course in Spring 2026: Inspection & Maintenance Decision Making for Bridges and Buildings. Designed for students and professionals, it builds practical skills to improve safety and resilience of aging infrastructure. Topics include inspection and condition assessment, hands-on non-destructive testing, maintenance decision-making using risk and life-cycle cost analysis, forensic angineering, and structural health monitoring with digital twins.
